Students, staff, and families at the La Fe Preparatory School were proud to welcome Astronaut John “Danny” Olivas, PhD, PE to their campus this morning for a special presentation on science, math, and space.

Olivas, a graduate of Burges High School and of the University of Texas at El Paso, spent the morning talking to La Fe’s nearly 200 Pre-K through third-grade students, their teachers, and families. Olivas shared video of his spacewalks, two space missions, and of life aboard a space shuttle.

Our students and teachers are grateful to Olivas and to Congressman Silvestre Reyes, D-Texas for helping us to coordinate this fabulous educational event.

NASA astronaut Danny Olivas showed video clips of his space shuttle missions during a visit to the La Fe Preparatory School at 616 E. Father Rahm in South El Paso Monday. The Burges and UTEP graduate has been a crew member and space walker on two shuttle missions. He told the students he would not want to live on any other plant but Earth. La Fe director Salvador Balcorta presented him with a framed print of the school amid space scenes and Olivas presented them with a montage of pictures he took on the missions. About La Fe Preparatory School

Students Will Excel in School

The La Fe Preparatory School is a small campus with 128 students in Pre-Kindergarten-2nd Grade. We will add one grade each year until we reach the school’s full capacity of 224 students in PK-5th grade.

CLASS SIZE: Small classes of no more than 16 students allow each child to receive individual and personalized attention.

DUAL LANGUAGE: Students will graduate with the ability to communicate socially, academically, and professionally in both Spanish and English by participating in a dual language immersion program. Developing both languages enhances students’ higher order thinking skills rather than teaching them the simple acquisition of basic English speech and vocabulary.
